FlightClub Rules & Regulations

FlightClub NZ complies with all rules and regulations set out by the CAA and local councils when operating our events, we expect all Pilots to know and Understand the rules for Flying in NZ.

In general:

  • you can not fly above 400ft (125m)
  • You must fly within LOS of the aircraft
  • You must have a spotter watching for possible dangers
  • Do not fly over any person without there permission.
  • You can not fly without express permission for the property/land owner in which you ar5e flying over.
  • Aucklands council have given permission to fly at there council own parks/reserves as long as you follow the above rules and be respectful of other users.

FlightClub has other rules we have put in place to ensure our meetups operate without incidents. These include,

FLIGHTCLUB EVENT RULES OVERVIEW:

  • Ensuring your Failsafes are working, this will be tested before any event.
  • Ensure your VTX is installed correctly and is operating at 25mW (at some events we may run at 200mW)
  • Ensure your Antennas are not damaged in any way that could effect the video transmission.
  • Ensuring your Quad has been carefully built with no obvious safety concerns, (lose wires, bad soldering etc)
  • Never power up your quad in the pilot area. EVER! Please go to the designated landing zone or away from the event area to power up your quad. This includes if you have to work on the quad and have unplugged your VTX.
  • If you crash during a practice or race you are not allowd to go onto the field until all pilots have landed there aircraft. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Event registrations will close @ 7pm the night before – NO Exceptions
  • Payment will need to be made BEFORE registrations close.
  • Pilots must arrive a min of 30 mins BEFORE the start time for the event.
  • If you are not ready to fly for the first session(practice) you will miss out and go straight into qualifying.
  • Strict time limit for resets (race restarts / change of group for racing) of either 2 mins or 3 mins depending on which round it is.
  • Time limits introduced for each session (Practice / Qualifying / Race)
  • Pilots are expected in good faith to be available to help set up or pull down a course (or both – however we understand that sometimes you can not commit additional time before or after an event)
  • No flying of quads until practice has started (with the exception of Mavic/phantom type drones getting footage of the event and location etc.

EVENT TIME LIMITS:

  • Practice Rounds 4 mins (MAX) & 2 mins reset time.
  • Qualifying Rounds 2 mins (most laps) and 3 mins rest time (slightly extended reset time to account for the fact that pilots need to finish current lap after time expires)
  • Race Rounds 3 mins (MAX) & 2 mins reset time.
  • Well have a 10 min break for morning tea (in between practice and Qualifying)
  • And a 30 min Lunch Break in between Qualifying and Racing.
  • Race Director or Event Manager may change these times at his/her discretion (for example lunch might be extended for an hour to accommodate a group BBQ etc – however changes to these Proposed times will always be stipulated in the event Details/Description page.
